An Hourglass and Sand
by Tammy Darby

Why are the traits of creativity and insanity
An hourglass and sand
Is it an inherited genetic defect?
Or a wonderment of man
An anomaly of nature
A chemical imbalance in the Ribonucleic acid
A minuscule knot in the DNA strands

Many minds revered and unknown don the genius crown
The emotive disturbing creations of Goya’s dark-stained hands

Madness my Residence
by Tammy Darby

I write these words while I am still myself
The price paid as my cold soul burns
No longer possessing the impediment of a heart
It’s the script for which I yearn

Jumping to and fro throughout memories and time
My life subtly disguised in misleading illusions and vague erratic rhyme
My eccentricity I have little or no inclination to explain
Nor the secret corners of my fragmented thoughts
Where revenge and malevolence play

Ten years
by Tammy Darby

Before the prophecy would come
When millions of imploding stars plummet from the sky erasing the sun
The hands of annihilation hasten humanities demise
Impatient for fresh souls
Watching and waiting the dark angels sighed

Ten Years

The unimaginable days bore the blood
Yet still, they deafened their ears

Introvert or Extrovert
by Tammy Darby

I endeavor to refrain from writing when melancholy
Besieged by depression and fears
Unwilling to share with those narrow of mind
The shadows that beleaguer and taunt me
Or upon fragile pages shed my tears

Being a confirmed introvert
Withdrawing from society when the demons of violence beset me
Rather than offer up misunderstood explanations
Avoiding social approval or condemnation completely

Shall I tell you of a broken heart
by Tammy Darby

Who in its anger repudiated the world
And embraced the dark.
Or would you prefer elaborate romantic letters of love?
Unwavering devotion,
A pedestal of adoration
Pledges spoken to him above

This tale is of one who by choice turned from the light,
Nevermore hear the chorus of sweet breezes,
Boldly cavorting through sage green branches in the night.
