The Visitor

I have an unwelcome guest,
That visits me every night.
He makes sure that I stay awake,
Until long after morning light.
His conversation is painful,
I pretend not to hear.
The only thing that happens then,
Is he whispers in my ear.

Two Insomniacs

I know our minds are interwtined
Mourning a late night's morning light

Two flies and three spiders
The number of nocturnal visitors I have seen
Gray is an interesting color
Or so the cobwebs on my roof make me think
Leaves are terrifying in the dark
When their shadow is projected in the night
They sway and make dancing dragons

en slaap wat 'n mens ontwyk
en dan is dit ook die "donker uur"
wanneer die meeste mense beswyk
selfs Paul Simon het daaroor gesing
in sy "Sound of silence" - wel bekend
toe hy sy lied se woorde skryf,
"Hello darkness, my old friend."
Ek wens ek het sy talent gehad
om die woorde so te laat vloei

Bright Eyes

I so adored late hours. I was what you would call a night owl,
As fireflies seldom appear, until creamy moon is on the prowl.
I loved the quiet and peacefulness, and staring at a big moon,
Just as the onset of summer, is staring down the end of June!
Some people can get by on less sleep, and I was one of those,
As eager feet are constantly going by, the paths of primrose.
My nightly pursuits were many-music, reading, TV or going out,
