In the Quiet After Forever

Even though the thread was as weak as it shouldn't be,
it stretched against time, fragile but steady.
Everyone knew it was never built to last,
yet here it lies, at the edge of breaking.
The weakest phase, the strongest will,
a stubborn flame that refuses to still.
