America, the land of silent classrooms,
where freedom takes aim in open hallways.
They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend,
but when she strides in with stars in her eyes,
her trauma buried beneath her skin,
and blood staining the black leather of her boots,
who does she fight for now?
I raise my hand high, trembling,
......
take what you want and own who you can
but make sure to reel them in before they're a man
make up excuses to spend all our funds
then hide behind your desks and wait for the guns
but lie to us all, everything's alright
just as long as you can sleep at night
make sure to look pretty and put on your mask
divert us away from the questions we ask
stand on your stage and welcome your fans
just make sure you see the camera before you shake hands

We are bequeathed on the nation,
And the nation bequeathed to us.
Have pride they said,

Division is not the path to integration
Empowering voices that just believe in denigration.

Of our wobbling times —a stinking, old robe
Turned inside-out.
The smell of stale beer creases the raised brows.
Witnesses grieve ceaselessly.

Why do politicians lie
And our wallets deftly pry,
Puff and bluster all the time
Their intent to cheat sublime.
Are we dumb or just naive
Of that talent to deceive,
Smiles aplenty to go round
While broken promises abound.
