To Luck
by William Stanley Merwin

In the cards and at the bend in the road
we never saw you
in the womb and in the crossfire
in the numbers
whatever you had your hand in
which was everything
we were told never to put
our faith in you
to bow to you humbly after all
because in the end there was nothing

A Change of Fortune
by Evelyn Judy Buehler

I was an invaluable bank teller, loving peaceful life and daisy blue sky days,
Like yellow sun warming sweet seasons, inducing vibrant, natural displays.

I left for pleasant work every day, with a determined and practical purpose;
And I was happy in my job thoroughly, as colorful clowns at a golden circus.

My friends and I would lunch together, like milky stars gathered in the sky,
And we laughed at the mellow sunshine, like wind will sometimes, going by.

My family passed in and out of rose hours, like moon's hide and seek ways,

Blue Moon
by Drew Schoenfeld

In the end
Always glad
I saw you happen
When you saw I happened

There you appeared
Glamorous distant moon
In an orbit that I would happen by
So returned our inroads
From an unfinished goodbye

Luck is not chance
by Emily Dickinson

Luck is not chance
It's Toil
Fortune's expensive smile
Is earned
The Father of the Mine
Is that old-fashioned Coin

The Parting of the Column
by Rudyard Kipling

We've rode and fought and ate and drunk as rations come to hand,
Together for a year and more around this stinkin' land:
Now you are goin' home again, but we must see it through.
We needn't tell we liked you well. Good-by - good luck to you!

You ‘ad no special call to come, and so you doubled out,
And learned us how to camp and cook an' steal a horse and scout.
What ever game we fancied most, you joyful played it too,
And rather better of the whole. Good-by - good luck to you!

Everything Kills
by Rukudzo Kachambgwa

Know this one truth, that anything
And everything can kill you.
If you're not careful
You might hurt yourself badly
Because surely, there's nothing in the world
That can't hurt you.
Even drinking water once it passes along the wrong path
Could kill you.
Even the sadza that you eat everyday
Once injested badly, could kill you.

Good Luck And Bad
by Grantland Rice

GOOD Luck is like a down hill tide
That helps to make an easy start,
Where one may paddle, drift or glide
Without much effort on his part;

But though it takes you to the goal
And brings you in the world's acclaim,
It builds no fibre for your soul
Nor molds you for the rougher game.
