The Allotted Span

In years, the allotted span of men
Is said to be three score and ten.
But who can count the pleasure
And who the kindness measure
That you have given in your life
To your sister and your wife;
And to all the many others,
Be they brothers, fathers, mothers.

Life is measured not in years
But by its joys - its hopes and fears.
By service which to others rendered
In later days is oft remembered.
So may today and all your days
Be filled with happiness and praise
To God the giver of all good
And whose wondrous "name is Love."
