Fractured Jewels

On California's rocky beaches,
in the tide's ebb and flow,
we learn as nature teaches of
the fragile world below.
In the blackness of the deep,
hunted creatures hide or sleep.
Some change roles as they swim away,
as larger animals seek their prey.
Jellies drift up, escalating
to the penetrating light.
In the crevices of rocky rings,
multitudes of fantastic things
cling as life-giving sun
pierces pools
illuminating fractured jewels.
We are privileged to observe
treasures in the watery reserve.
For future generations we preserve.
