I have had a great many loves in my lifetime,
Which is why I am the star of velvet nighttime;
But my fervor does not involve solely romance,

And put happy smiles, upon those midnight faces.
I am born upon meeting, and die at the parting,
For the fire in my blood, often leaves me smarting!

on linoleum,
startling no one.
Two bodies in orbit—

Caught myself
Yelling at the dishes.
They didn't deserve it.
"An honor--"
they said.
"It is an honor
to witness
the undoing of your wrath–
how it scorches your ribs,

Look up.
Not for answers —
to belong.
We saw it all:
the first cry,
the kiss,
the turning,
the trembling,
the boy tracing moonlight in his sleep,
the girl dancing barefoot on the shore.
