Homeless Us
by Michael R. Burch
The coldest night I ever knew
the wind out of the arctic blew
long frigid blasts; and I was you.
We huddled close then: yes, we two.
For I had lost your house, to rue
such bitter weather, being you.
......
If you ain't got family
Damn (then?) you don't have anything
There's nobody home
But they're there just the same
Ghosts with eyes you can't see
Watching from the corners like creeps
It's so scary and it's shameful I wish I had a family who wanted me
Home, I just want to be home
......
These are poems about the homeless and the downtrodden, and poems about the need for compassion, kindness, understanding and tolerance.
Neglect
by Michael R. Burch
What good are your tears?
They will not spare the dying their anguish.
What good is your concern
to a child sick of living, waiting to perish?
......
A poem,
A poet.
A song,
A singer.
A sound,
An instrument.
A conversation,
An argument.
“Please just Listen to me!”
......
running down her fingers
with a plunk
the hollow sound of a steel bucket
taking its first hit
steady dripping
plunk
turns into a steady ripple
over her full lower lip
a stream filling the bucket slowly
fighting evaporation
......
