A List of Praises
by Katherine Anne Porter

Give praise with psalms that tell the trees to sing,
Give praise with Gospel choirs in storefront churches,
Mad with the joy of the Sabbath,
Give praise with the babble of infants, who wake with the sun,
Give praise with children chanting their skip-rope rhymes,
A poetry not in books, a vagrant mischievous poetry
living wild on the Streets through generations of children.

Give praise with the sound of the milk-train far away
With its mutter of wheels and long-drawn-out sweet whistle

What I Would Give
by Rafael Campo

What I would like to give them for a change
is not the usual prescription with
its hubris of the power to restore,
to cure; what I would like to give them, ill
from not enough of laying in the sun
not caring what the onlookers might think
while feeding some banana to their dogs—
what I would like to offer them is this,
not reassurance that their lungs sound fine,
or that the mole they've noticed change is not

Misgiving
by Robert Frost

All crying, 'We will go with you, O Wind!'
The foliage follow him, leaf and stem;
But a sleep oppresses them as they go,
And they end by bidding them as they go,
And they end by bidding him stay with them.

Since ever they flung abroad in spring
The leaves had promised themselves this flight,
Who now would fain seek sheltering wall,
Or thicket, or hollow place for the night.

When Giving Is All We Have
by Alberto Ríos

One river gives
Its journey to the next.

We give because someone gave to us.
We give because nobody gave to us.

We give because giving has changed us.
We give because giving could have changed us.

We have been better for it,

Loving Hearts Show Kindness
by Evelyn Judy Buehler

Kindness is a thing that gives love its wings. Often it comes
from people you know and love, but sometimes it comes from a
stranger most unexpectedly, surprising the recipient, and even
the giver as well, for how we react to crisis, only time can
tell. A split second act of courage has saved many a life, at
the rescuer's own peril. Loving hearts are caring, feeding the
hungry and caring for the sick. Loving hearts are champions
of humanity, always striving for the best in humankind. The
teachings of Jesus and kindness are in perfect harmony, like
the moon is in harmony with the night.

Giving Godly Grace
by Evelyn Judy Buehler

Going about our lives with giving hearts
Inspired forever by His unfailing love
Very eager to follow His perfect example
Incomplete and so forlorn without Him
Naturally desirous to spread good news
Giving and accepting the gift of prayer

Generous always with love and devotion
Obedience to the dear Lord in all things
Doubtlessly directing all our footsteps
