Rear-view mirror sunrise

As I drove westward one early morning
I saw, to my surprise,
Creation there, in my rear-view mirror -
Dawn, in miniature size.

Resplendent, with blazing colors,
as sunrises generally are;
this glorious brilliant masterpiece
was framed there in my car!

My love now slumbers close to me;
I luxuriate in her warm nudity.

Morning Serenade

Strokes of pink narrow clouds
daub faint lattices across the brightening horizon sky.
Pre-dawn light composes incipient daedal reflections
of trees on the pond surface.
Despite a thin morning haze, deep indigoid shadows
shimmer on the glazed veneer,
as from unclouded Alasnam’s mirror.
