When we met

WHEN WE MET
----Flowed like the creek which babbled alongside.
WORDS
----Ricocheted like shrapnel around the nauseous confines of the skull I locked myself inside.

WHEN I FELL
----Swirled in the daze of a hued cloud like embers coughed from a campfire.
MY DREAMS
----Drifted quietly into the fog alongside the faded images and murmurs of ----an existence doomed to expire.

WHEN WE SAT ON THE HILL
----Of your blush against mine mirrored the sun’s crimson embrace with the wavering horizon.

THE TOUCH
----Of searing coals was the silk that stuffed the pillow my head lied on.

WHEN YOU TURNED TO FACE ME

----Mashed and whispered promises of an ecstasy that could still persist.
TREMBLING LIPS
----Shivered in panicked silence drenched in the chapped sting of a briny mist.

WHEN SEARCHING HANDS GRIPPED SKIN

----Basked your breasts in the iris glow of shaded moonlight and wrapped our embrace in the melody of the forest’s rustling choir.

NATURE
----Conjured only its blind brutality and placed its apples on a branch too high-for ----me to ever again acquire.

WHEN WE RETURNED WE

----Giddy into the black with fingers weaved together, sweaty only from the nerves of yearning.

WALKED
----The confines of iron bars and desperate memories before collapsing onto a ----bed made solely for turning.

---------------------------------
Out of the stoned lust
Arose a promise veiled in
The sheath of the night
---------------------------------

WHEN WE FIRST GLIMPSED THE RED WE

----Clumsy, yet with familiar lips waltzing to the melody of our forgotten meal.
DANCED
----Like a shadow across a muffled carpet in the lonely haze of night so as to cope for a body I wish ceased to feel.

-----------------------------------
A numb ache whispered
From afar but charred away
In our paper’s flame
---------------------------------

WHEN WE LOCKED EYES
----That begged to fold skin and hair and breath into the same.
A BURNING CONSUMED ME
----That singed my skin with such malice I knew Dante had called my name.

---------------------------------
Angelic arms pulled
Like rope from the hesitant
Silence to the pulse
---------------------------------

WHEN OUR HANDS GRASPED LINEN
----Gasps as flesh entered flesh entered heart.
THERE ECHOED
----Sobs as needles thrust inside and ripped me apart.

----------------------------------
Ceaseless rapping and
Briny jets of light creased her
Door’s gloomy outline
----------------------------------

WHEN I ENVELOPED YOU UNDER THE SHEETS

----A chest that rose and fell to the gentle whistle of breaths, echoing like wind through caves.

I CRADELED
----A stomach churning like soaked ice on ink waves.

-------------------------------
The mattress melted
And I sank into nettles
That bound my skin down
-----------------------------

WHEN WE LEPT
----Which ferried rash ignorance to possibility.
IT WAS HOPE
----Which blew leaden from the furnace.

----------------------------
The raven and the
Frayed golden shine submerged me in
My body’s ruby bath
--------------------------

WHEN I PICTURED TOMOROW
----Where we watched tenderly nuzzled as an eagle climbed forth from Zion on painted desert winds.

I MET THE CANYON

----Where a highway sloped toward a crumbling chasm above the quarry of my sins.

-----------------------------
I knew the ending
But when we met, the monsoon
hung heavy above me
---------------------------

So I kissed you without an umbrella in the rain
