Starlight

I had lately been in the career doldrums, for I was an aspiring, eager actress,
Like lavish summer blossoming rampantly, in wild, passionate distractedness.

I'd enjoyed a few triumphant successes, still, they were few and far between,
Like violet nights of shooting stars, as you wonder where that magic's been!

I guess it may seem I was being unwise, but I was chasing a precious dream,
Like blooms, failing to soak up the sun, soak up precious, ivory moonbeams.

It's not that I was innately morose, indeed, I had a sunny, happy disposition,
I just so badly wanted a starring role, to achieve a lifelong, heart's ambition.

I lived in a modest house on Happy Street, with plenty of cheerful neighbors,
As lotus blooms float to dreamland cheerfully, after saffron sunshine's labors.

Good friends said I'd make it one day, and family said I was already a winner,
Like charcoal dawn, that rapidly takes on colors, though it is only a beginner.

I really loved such rewarding work, as I loved making countless people smile,
As birds often bring delighted smiles, dressed to the nines, in elegant styles!

Luscious raspberry was on the rose, and strawberry sun was full of peaches,
And I had auditioned for a starring role, as crashing waves star at beaches.

On pins and needles I was, throughout many successive, butterscotch days,
And moonlit hours of helpless longing, awash in vivid dreams, silver glazed!

Like the tremulous heart of bleak winter, when at the verge of green spring,
Before bursting out in warm raptures, just to hear the pretty bluebirds sing.

But my high hopes were soon dashed, as that part was not destined for me,
And though disappointed, I didn't give up, since it set my fighting spirit free!

I held my head high with confidence, as I had developed a winner's attitude,
Like a lonesome, burgundy flower blossoming, in beauteous, sunlit solitude.

Amber burnished pink, sunrise skies, and along came successive, busy days,
As I tried again to launch my career, as silvery moon launches a new phase.

I went to audition after audition, and at each one, I was sure to give my all,
Like Alice, in the land of slumbering wonder, was made to feel ten feet tall!

Then once more, I was being considered, for yet another plum, starring role,
As a varicolored rainbow gazes afar chidingly, before it slowly loses control.

This time I got the starring role, no doubt you have seen my name in lights,
Like twinkling space lights, traveling so far, to offer to many, beautiful sights!
