Albuquerque, New Mexico

Alone

On a lonely, windswept beach -- sat a solitary figure
Gazing raptly at the incoming "breakers" -- not moving --
Just sitting -- the fine mist swirling all around her --
Oblivious of her surroundings, her senses not behooving!

She seemed so tiny in the vastness of the area --
As a tiny pebble, amongst the huge rocks, jutting out
The ground, water as far as the eye could see --
The gray sky, so gloomy, storm approaching, no doubt!

What was she thinking -- lost in her thoughts?
Was it a love gone awry -- a quarrel with her mate?
That is something we'll not know, for who could intrude
On such a lonely creature? Answers will have to wait.
