A Christmas Moment

Two nights before christmas
A cold and blustery night
Set out to buy a christmas tree
One for Santa's delight
There we were dad with me by his side
And snow flakes in our ears
Noses so red and eyes starting to tear
This late date good trees don't last
Most showing their age from days past
Dad picked out a tree with his usual stare
Mom would make it right with artistic flare
The price was two bucks not the usual five
The scarcity of wages kept frugality alive
There it was a tree to grace our home
Dad lugged it three flights of stairs
With me taking up the rear
I remembered how excited I was to be home
I yelled! Mom the christmas tree is here
