When You Trust Someone

When you trust someone
Without keeping one foot outside the door,
Without second-guessing their words,
Without building a backup plan,
You’re not being foolish.
You’re being real.

Because real trust
Doesn’t wear armour.
It doesn’t carry doubt in its pocket.
It shows up
Barehanded,
Heart open,
Willing to believe
That not everyone comes to hurt.

And sometimes,
That kind of trust
Gives you a person for life.
The kind who doesn't flinch when storms hit,
Who stays when things aren’t easy,
Who doesn’t disappear
When your truth feels heavy.

But sometimes,
It gives you a lesson for life.
The kind that stings
And sobers you up.
The kind that teaches you
How to see through smiles,
How to hear what silence really means,
How to stop calling every connection
A promise.

It’s one or the other.
Never both.

If you’ve trusted and lost,
Don’t call yourself weak.
You were honest
In a world
That keeps score.

You gave someone
A chance to show you
Who they really are.
And they did.

And now you know
Who deserves your peace,
And who was just a page
In a book that made you wiser.

Next time you trust,
Do it fully.
But understand the deal:
You’ll either get someone
Who guards your soul like their own,
Or someone
Who teaches you
How to guard it yourself.

Either way,
You win.
