In My Old Age . . .

In my old age I want to be retired from routinely done tasks,
from brainless chores of the everyday
I want to be fully engaged in things that give me pleasure. In my old age, 60 through 80, I want to be in good health,
go for long walks in the park, holding my beloved's hand.
At age 80 I want to have plenty of friends,
who come to visit me not because I had a stroke
but because they want to be close to a lucid mind and a warm heart. Please spare me from a million tubes
to extend my life beyond that of a vegetable
It is with dignity that I want to live and die.
Share with my loved ones on a happy occasion,
gracefully sit down on a chair and simply pass on. One act of pleasure in the world of the living
to follow another one . . . in the after life
