Dad, I Long to drink Tea with you

Dad, I long to sit and drink tea with you
And laugh about memories of years gone by
To hear about the time when you and mum met
To hear about those days when you worked so hard and was paid so little,
but you coped.

Dad, I long to sit and drink tea with you
To hear the constant stirring of your cup, as your excitement stirs
Like a whirlpool when talking about my humorous days as a baby
With temper tantrums and chuckles

When you were proud of my first steps,
when I’d grab your hand tightly
as we’d cross what seemed an endless
road toward safety.

Dad, I’d love to sit and drink tea with you,
to hear you sip and see you laugh,
To feel your presence, to walk the same path
one day Dad, one day.
