Remembrance Of My Love

Remembrance of my love, come back to me,
Enfold me in your transient embrace,
Patient of disillusion I will be
Again a visionary of her face.
Light me her eyes and fill her shining hair
With sweet pervasion of the scented South;
Recall the momentary glimpses where
Pitiful shadows played about her mouth.
O these beguiling fancies! This desire
That feeds on no fulfilment! Get you hence,
Imperfect amorist, whose kindling fire
Flickers, deludes and fades in impotence!
And this despairing ban shall still remain
Sternly enforced—until you come again.
