Midnight fell without you

Midnight fell without you here,
like rain that never touched the ground,
silence tightened its frontier
where ticking clocks made no sound.

Shadows slipped across the wall,
strangers to my quiet ache,
and the wind, so cold and small,
whispered truths it dared not fake.

The minutes blurred, too slow to die,
clinging to a sleepless sky,
while my heart replayed the lie
of dreams that kissed and passed me by.

I searched for you in every shade,
in echoes of a word unsaid,
but midnight,hushed and unafraid,
closed its arms around your thread.
