Ballade of the Withered Rose

Full of ache I sing this song of pain,
a dirge for love now buried in the dust.
Once bright as fire, now ashes in the rain,
our vows betrayed by silence and by rust.
The dreams we shared gave way to shattered trust,
your whispered promises,now phantom calls-
Each echo haunting as the twilight falls.

The rose I kept has withered in its frame,
its crimson bled to brown by time and frost.
A hollow shell, and I the one to blame
--
The cost of love too proud to know it's lost.
Your laughter,once my light,now tempest-tossed,
drifts far from reach as distant thunder sprawls
Each echo haunting as the twilight falls.

I walk alone through streets we knew by name,
each corner carved with moments that we crossed.
But the shadows stretch where once
there burned a flame,
and all I have is memory embossed.
Your absence sings,a choir of the glossed-
A hymn where love in bitter silence stalls
Each echo haunting as the twilight falls.

Envoi:
Oh heart, remember when the warm wind calls-
the sweetest love still dies behind cold walls.
Each echo haunting as the twilight falls.
