Accounts of the seven heavens are manifold.
Peopled by ancients, and by angels controlled.
Here is a description of the seven heavens
embraced, I’m told, by faithful Mohammedans:

The first heaven, consisting of pure silver bright,
holds angel warders who hang out the stars at night.
Each brilliant orb hung like lamp on golden chain;
it is where Adam and Eve now have their domain.

Second of the heavens is with pure gold applied;
here John the Baptist with Jesus in peace reside.

The third-most heaven is altogether pearled,
and is entrusted to Joseph - it is his world.
The Angel of Death, too, sits behind its portals,
forever writing and erasing lives of mortals.

Fourth of the heavens, lined with rare white gold,
ruled by Enoch, and does Angel of Tears enfold.

The fifth heaven is also of pure silver made,
where Aaron abides, and is fully unafraid
of the Avenging Angel, and his stern empire
who presides therein over elemental fire.

Sixth of the heavens made of rubies and garnets of great worth,
is ruled by Moses and the Guardian Angel of Earth.

The seventh heaven beams divine light beyond description.
Ruled by Abraham; larger than earth is every citizen:
70,000 heads, each of 70,000 faces, all faces with 70,000 mouths lipped,
each mouth encloses 70,000 tongues, with 70,000 languages equipped,
forever chanting in unity praises of the Most High,
exaltation in degree most difficult to quantify.
