(couplets)
If I had the time, I could do much more;
if I had the time, I could all outscore.
I could work hard to improve everything;
given the time, I could do most anything.
Like pay more attention to my spouse;
and do those odd chores around the house.
Participate in church activity;
set up the Christmas scene Nativity.
Help my children begin their lives;
greet the preacher when he arrives.
Do a good deed each and every day;
and actually get on my knees to pray.
Spend more minutes with the Holy Book;
help in the kitchen - why even cook!
Treat an acquaintance of mine to lunch;
or even help at a parish brunch.
Read books daily to improve education;
engage my family in conversation.
When finally my days are numbered short,
will I have given Jesus enough support?
My selfish ways have prevented me
from doing more to prepare for Thee.
There’ll be lots of time when I cross the line.
Will I spend it Damned, or in arms of Thine?
Resolve I now to ‘waste time’ deplore,
to get faith renewed, my soul restore.
So as I my inaction chains do loose,
say “If I had the time” is no excuse.
