Intrusive Thoughts

Distressing thoughts
that cut into life’s flow,
Are piercing through
the everyday pauses.

Coming on abruptly incongruent,
Feeling so extrinsic and unforeseen,
Their circuits loop around insistently.

As the thoughts intensify,
urges form,
And my apparent burning awareness
of my resultant disordered patterns,
Is shaded by my lack of self-control.

Against my advisable discernment,
I fail to consider the consequence,
As these intrusive thoughts grow and erupt,
Lending their way to impulsive actions.

My values cast aside,
Discomfort grows,
Self-loathing ensues,
I can’t escape these
intrusive thoughts.
