Natural disaster

There’s rainbows shattered on the lake
And Vultures in the sky.
Times suspended on my skin
Your hand clenched against my thigh.

Everything is so beautiful
Even as the thunder rolls
Butterflies dance along my eyes
And daffodils fill my hands.

The wind is whispering in my ear
Moss is creeping up my toes
Your eyes shine like the northern star
My quicksand mind erodes

Your heartbeat shakes the willow
It’s trembling boughs my veil
There’s ivy twining through our souls
Bright galaxies connected somehow

We’re grafted as a peach tree
With only a mountain to climb
I’ll eat the crows along the way
Just to keep us alive

You’d set the forest afire
Just to see my face
But I wish you’d just jar fireflies
Before flames sweep us away

It’s lovely and it’s tragic
The way we make each other bleed
Our loves an unruly sword
A hurricane are we

But screw a paper cut
The lift of your brow summons my laughter
We’ll build a home in the eye of our storm
Let me be your natural disaster
