Before I Do

Memories wash over me,
seafoam retreating to reveal something deeper under the sand

I dig in my toes, feeling the cool water between the grains cushioning my feet
emotions rising up within me like the new tide

The waves crash, violently, thunderously
The flash of lightening a shock to the senses

The air is crisp, electric as the rain begins to pound down
beating down the earth to compel yet more void to fill

turbulent and beautiful,
the maelstrom arrives on time.

I stand still,
the wind whipping around me stinging my face

ocean salt mingling with the feelings pouring from my eyes
and brave the storm

Like a masthead cutting through the surging sea
I wait, knowing that soon the clouds will break

before I do.
