I Can Act

When I look into his eyes, all I see is you.
Your sorrow
Your joy
Your pity
Your thought
Your anger
Your passion
And every other moment of you that I hold—
That I want to l e t g o of but
Can’t.
I can’t let go of you.
So I go on playing pretty little darling;
I’m sweet as a grape
Crushed under the weight of your too-good-for-me-ness.
I’ll still batter my eyelashes to him
And speak soft words that you couldn’t speak to me
And he’ll think I’m an angel come down for him
But I’m just a sinking ship who thought she could handle the iceberg.
Sink and smile
Smile and sink
Let nobody know
That you’re on the brink.
I want to go home
But you’re heart is locked
She’ll find the key
I will sink and rot.
And I will be all grey and wrinkles
And look into his eyes
And still see you.
