The in-between World

When a blow from life befell you unexpectedly
Did you ignore it uncaring
Not noticing if the sun rose or set in its finale of orange and red.

If the sky turned upside down and the stars fell about
Or the yellow moon refused to rise
And, in disgust, shunned the scented winds
Around your head, that daintily swirled around.

Feeling isolated but still unconcerned
If the world around you burned
You displayed no signs of your intentions to anyone
From within yourself, with sullen silence
Or even a manic shout

You stepped into another sphere.
One where there was no sadness or pain
Perhaps the desperate attempt to save your sanity
Was the force behind you’re mental departure
For in truth, you had much to gain

Still, with no hesitation or regret
You readily sliced the bonds with humanity
Seeking to be free from the past
Without a second of consideration
And ignoring the pleas of reality

Giving it no more thought
The in-between world
Was where you chose to remain.
