Last Departure by Shalin Sinha

Metal jaws snap shut,
a sigh of air escapes,
like a city breathing in,
and holding its breath,

Shuffling bodies jostle,
tight as unsaid apologies,
Rush hour hums,
a symphony of lateness,

The doors slam a verdict:
you're in, or you're out—
no in-between,

Time never waits,
and neither does the train.
