White Moon

Takes to the mountains with age
His white wolf kaka keeps him company
Till his end
No more fighting, chasing, or hunting buffalo
Just a peaceful rest to the final curtain
For him under the stars wrapped in a white blanket
With his visions of dreams
Of Running Bear, his lovely wife and family
Memories of days gone by
Fights with the white man
To save his lands and his very existence
Days in peace, hunting Buffalo on the prairie
Smoking pipes around a raging camp fire
Hot nights of passion with Running bear
Which, produced five young fearless braves
Made in his own mold
True warriors all
But his one true love Running Bear
As a young squaw, her beauty was beyond compare
His heart was captivated by her long black hair
And bright brown eyes
His heart would pound inside at the very sight of her
Together they made love under the stars on hot summer’s evenings
And in winter under bear rugs in their tepee
Life was so good
Now Running bear was gone, taken by the sixty-eight fever
Lay to rest on her funeral pyre
And as the flames took her away, her soul went to the hunting ground in the sky
To await White Moon so they would be together again
Now Kaka was his one true friend
Together they would wander the land
Till his maker chose his time to go
Until then, memories filled his days and nights
And his heart rejoiced in what he had been blessed with in life
So death meant nothing to him now
Because he knew his beloved Running Bear was waiting in the Promised Land
And together they would be for eternity
Such was the believe in their spirits being together in life, and in death
