You Can Tell Them I Was Nothing

Go ahead and tell them I was nothing, if that’s the story you need to tell,
Just leave out all those years I stood beside you when family wasn't around.
Leave out the kid I helped raise, the school pick-ups, practices and games,
All the times I was there when the people who should’ve been there never came.

Tell people everything was my fault and you never did anything wrong,
It’s easier to make me the bad guy than admit where you went wrong.
I’ve heard you tear down friends and family, then smile when they’re around,
So I shouldn’t be surprised that now it’s my name you’re dragging through the ground.

You told me you loved me every day and thanked me because I stayed,
Couldn’t stand the thought of me with someone else or me walking away.
Then we ended, and suddenly I’m “not your type” and our whole life was a mistake,
Funny, because when I gave you a ring, “yes” was the answer you chose to make.

I didn’t just lose a relationship—I lost someone I’d known half my life,
My best friend, my home, my family, the woman I wanted as my wife.
And that’s the part that cuts deepest—not that we couldn’t make it through,
But watching someone who knew my whole heart turn around and make me someone I never knew.

I won’t beg for the truth when I already know what was real,
Or chase down every lie just to prove how I feel.
You can say I was nothing—maybe someday you’ll believe that lie too, But I know what I gave, and deep down, so do you.
I lost someone I loved; you lost someone who loved you through it all,
And the coldest part is, I finally see you for who you are—and I don’t miss you at all.
