Passion and Roses

( Shakespearean sonnet )

Pale rosebuds heighten youthful innocence,
while roses mauve fuel fancied ardor fire,
denying unversed youth wise abstinence,
whereas pink roses spark True Love’s desire.

Moss roses signify wild possessing,
and lust that cannot yield sweet Charity.
Such ardor, thus, is but backward blessing
and with yellow rose mark disloyalty.

Hunger sated may not passion assuage,
and tho’ passion gone, life can be enjoyed.
Passion unleashed will judgment disengage;
hot thirst for youth will no old age avoid.

A bridled passion may Golden Mean proclaim,
but only passion stokes the creative flame!
