It's in the Cards

Sally Ann had long yearned for a dog, as smoky desert longs for rain.
Sally Ann was nearly twelve years old, like noontides of glossy refrain.

She lived out in the pretty country, with both parents, an only child;
And waked daily to robin singing, on the lanes where sun first smiled.

She was happy and a bright student, like the caramel stars, twinkling;
On the edge of the summer solstice, when onyx night's still lingering.

Friendly feet, on fuchsia days, ran fleetly, as they joined in joyful races,
Surrendering to youth, and its wild frenzy, of which we all keep traces.

Family walked the floor, awaiting family, green trees like flags, waving;
Amid birdsong of shocking pink dawn skies, filling all with life's craving.

Sally lived in the house of tomorrow, so eager for a dream come true;
As buds raptly yearn towards sun, and golden butterflies we once knew!

Silken starlings made secret social calls, on the street of square dancing;
Where farmers sometimes threw parties, with mocha sunset enhancing.

Neighbors walked on paths of neon flowers, for nuanced moonlit visits,
During never-ending nights of nutty treats, on orange sun's outer limits.

Grasping 'hairy claw' blooms, startled passersby, as 'boat orchids' sailed;
A year freesia was named 'most beautiful,' and purple starlight prevailed.

'Flag orchids' showed real patriotism, waving vibrant colors in the hills;
When 'English' lavender paused for tea, and gladioli donned pretty frills.

Sally Ann's dream birthday came, as if on golden wings deep wishes lend;
And she met for the first time, her frolicsome puppy, and newest friend!

She also got a new game of bingo, that she enjoyed playing with her pals.
Her new dog was always racing off with the cards-off to different locales!

Which inspired the idea of a name for him, as he was so cute and playful;
And Sally and her friends wrote a song, like mauve sunrise tunes, wakeful.

Lustrous moon was huge and full, as gentle, wandering wind, whispered;
In silver times of growing up happy, like the fairytale Cinderella, slippered.

As should be humanity's wish for each child, like disarming, dazzling daisy;
Found in the place red roses meet. Sunshine yellow, in warm breezes, lazy.

'There was a farmer who had a dog,
And Bingo was his name-O.
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
And Bingo was his name-O!'
