Fits of Laughter

William was proclaimed king in the middle ages, and he was capable and fair;
And also had a jolly sense of humor, like tinctured bubbles, giggling, in air!

He and the queen loved the palace life, like the garnet, sunset King of Days;
And sometimes played practical jokes, in the flowering, summertime craze!

Their court held lavish feasts and much revelry, like diamond waves, sparkly;
Under the graceful seagulls screaming, at their noon, oceanside, beach party.

Frequently friends were fixtures at court, when the fat frogs croaked spring;
In first days of season forever green, when nature begins to hum and sing.

Fancy stores on the avenue displayed fine fashions, during the fuchsia review,
When family passed by, nearing; and faceted, navy stars were coming in view.

They lived in the house of gold jollity, where tangerine sun beamed every day;
And jet night waited in deep shadow, the hour sterling stars come out to play.

Regal Road ran right past the royal doorway, as sleek carriages ever rushed by,
Like bustle in the downtown of quiet lives, prismatic colors pleasing each eye!

Nary a narcissus stayed on for summer, but left, trailing sweet scents, naturally;
Nevertheless, neighbors eagerly came calling, savoring old friendships, casually.

Raspberry red 'pom pom' chrysanthemums cheered summer, the home team;
When 'dwarf' irises were so tiny. Like a gold sunbeam, lost in sunshine dream.

Harlequin flowers performed in silence, as purple 'indian chief' led a floral tribe ;
And 'swerti irises' bore a unique, grape fragrance, like scent flowers, once dried.

The king left his counting house, as the queen left the parlor, for a midday meal;
And they soothed a maid with a sore nose, like time working wonders to heal.

The luncheon was ready when they got there, the room filled with such laughter;
And everyone was in a festive mood, like classic stories with a happily ever after.

Soon the time came for the second course. 'Twas a golden brown, flaky meat pie;
But, once cut, birds flew about, like mournful, dusk whippoorwill, missing the sky.

All the court was aghast, at sleek blackbirds flying, through wide open windows;
And all through the confounded Great Hall! Then laughter began to crescendo.

The king was laughing tears, and sensing humor, others were soon laughing too;
At tasty looking false pies and crust pecking birds, knowing not what else to do!

There was such mellifluous singing, rich, melodic and flute-like. Very enthralling!
They sang of a king's dainty dish, and tasty crust, like pearl moonlight, recalling.

A marvelous time was had by all, and a prized moment froze in legend, solid gold.
Then children sang the song, laughing, like skies when day is one moment too old.

'Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing.
Wasn't that a dainty dish
To set before the king?

The king was in his counting house,
Counting out his money.
The queen was in the parlour,
Eating bread and honey.

The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird
And nearly pecked off her nose.'
