Beyond Their Gaze

Ed, Dave and Greg were life-long friends, who liked spending time together;
As beautiful colors unite in wild dismay, following blue-gray, stormy weather.

They dreamed of owning a luxurious hot tub, like learning the latest dance;
When early twilight blooms breathe joy, and glorious moon looks askance.

They were saving towards the lofty goal, and they would all pay a third for it.
They would share responsibility and the use of it, like a glitter trailing rocket.

Each friend had his own highly skilled trade, and they were successful men;
And took their work quite seriously, like prettiest rainbows, of now and then.

But, they often talked about exciting adventure, of the kind that never ends;
Like the beautiful, daily sunset saga, with varying colors that clash and blend.

Friends floated by like dreamy, festooned clouds, in the vast array of shades,
Or sweet, fruity flowers of eternal favor, gaining beauty's peak, until fall fade.

Time must always be found for family, which is the foundation of friendship;
Like fiery stars of foreverlasting shine, igniting dim, mulberry nights of velvet.

The friends' houses were houses of permanence, like wordless, undying love;
Surviving numerous, tangible, tests of time, in the midst of purple foxglove.

Silent stars scattered scarlet rubies, creating strikingly beautiful night scenery;
On their suburban street of scented secrets, with pink butterflies in greenery.

Neighbors known by familiar, old nicknames, pursued calm, porch pleasures,
When yon native, pretty, green birds, sang ancient songs-golden treasures!

Tiny 'Youtan Poluo,' takes an age to bloom, like wild, starry-eyed anticipation;
Only once in three thousand years, with sublime, resultant fragrance creation!

Colorful 'snapdragons' breathed fire, giving rise to the hottest days of summer;
When 'big leaf' hydrangeas outgrew their beds, giving blooms without number!

Saffron sun rose one day, and the friends finally had enough to buy a hot tub.
It featured waterfalls and LED mood lighting, in the time of bouncy buttercups!

Dave's yard was chosen for the installation, since he had a beachfront property;
A site of everyday, thrilling scenery! Of relaxation, fun, and full moon, probably.

The tub had remote control and bluetooth audio, like the good times, revisiting;
Or a traveling companion known as joy, or sun, in the room where you're sitting.

When they tried it out for the first time, other friends came out to see the sight;
And were suitably impressed by its splendor, beyond cool surf, foaming white.

But, a monstrous wave soon approached, with terrifying suddenness, and a roar;;
And tore the lavish hot tub from its moorings, like a blue hurricane at the door!

Other friends wrung their hands and watched, like summer looks to fall, nearing;
Until they disappeared on the horizon, when many sunset colors were smearing!

The sea began to calm, after several hours; like when hate dissipates to nothing.
Three days later, phones began to ring! The Coast Guard rescue, made hearts sing!

That wild, rough ride was the yearned for adventure! Pals joked they had a bath;
An adored nursery rhyme was born. Like noonday sobs, leading to sunset laugh!

'Rub-a-dub-dub,
Three men in a tub,
And who do you think they be?
The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker,
And all of them out to sea.'
