To be a Psalmist of the Most High is no light thing;
Thou leadest the multitude, yet thou must dwell in sanctification.
Thou singest before kings,
Yet thou art ever a servant of the King of kings.
Thy voice filleth the air,
But thy spirit must be hid in Christ alone.
For thy fall becometh the fall of many,
And thy compromise, a snare unto souls.
Know ye not, music is both flesh and spirit?
What proceedeth from thy mouth first springeth from thy heart.
Each song beareth a spirit
Let it be the Spirit of the Living God.
It is not thy gift that maketh thee holy,
Nor thy fame that counteth in the courts of heaven.
It is not thy followers,
Nor silver, nor applause, nor beauty of sound,
But the fire of righteousness within thee.
Remember, O Psalmist,
Thou art not thy own, but bought with a price.
Be thou a vessel, fit for the Master's use;
Let the Holy Ghost dwell richly within thee.
For the Lord abideth in the praises of His people,
And thou, O minstrel, art as a priest before Him.
Therefore, cleanse thy hands and purify thy heart;
Come not with pride, lest thou be cast down.
Be lowly, be righteous, and fear the Lord;
For He is holy and greatly to be feared in the assembly of His saints.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who giveth wisdom to them that ask.
Sing ye with truth, live ye with holiness,
And let not thy lips outpace thy life.
Peace be upon the faithful servants,
Peace upon them that keep His ways.
Amen.
