the church of ever-more

in the first church of credit
we nailed a man to compound interest.
now,
he hangs in every bank lobby,
a divine sponge
squeezed daily for miracles.
forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors;
but,
the fine print giveth
and the apr taketh away.

in the temple of the ever-more
here,
the priests wear algorithm stoles
and feed our hunger
to the furnace of expand.
the sacrament is growth
that tastes of rust;
we swallow futures
like cheap wine,
praise the surplus
of our own starvation.

what and how to worship?
kneels to the terminal.
lets your data body
be broken
into dividends,
and,
offers your children
as collateral.
i did not say that or
recommend it,
but that is what everyone is doing
day by day.
once,
twice,
three, and
sometimes
five times a day.
searching for forgiveness,
and a blank check
for their little and bigger sins.

no one says to sell their children,
but the college fund
is now a micro-investment
in their future brand.
